Haley Fohr aka Circuit des Yeux is readying a new album for 2025 to follow up her exceptional 2021 record –io and has shared a new track to whet our appetites: “GOD DICK”. She says:
“GOD DICK serves as a sort of chrysalis function. It’s passage leading from the past toward things to come. It’s sweaty, exponential, cacophonous, growing, symphonic, and relentless. I wrote this as an effort to embody a state of change fueled by deep wanting. I sonically (and visually) imagined something huge hiding in a skin much too small for it – a kind of love banshee bursting through porcelain skin one hair at a time until finally, the beast within is fully on display.”
The song starts in a similar avant-pop styling as her last album, Fohr’s powerful voice elevated over grandiose string arrangements; “I’m drooling for spit / I’m pining to know the thing I once knew” she reveals. Around halfway the chrysallis cracks open and “GOD DICK” morphs into a high-energy electronic scramble, with everything plastering the aural canvas in a beautifully chaotic sprawl. It’s something akin to her primal side re-emerging from the depths after years in hibernation, and it’s glorious to behold.
