Charlotte Adigéry and her musical partner Bolis Pupul return today with “Thank You”, a song co-produced with Soulwax that she describes as“a cheeky and cynical revenge for all the unwanted, unsolicited opinions some people generously offer us”.
To call it “cheeky” is seriously underselling just how sardonic and cutting Adigéry is in “Thank You”. Underpinned by an infectious tech-house groove, the vocalist is full of confidence as she offers plenty of witheringly sarcastic responses in her cool-as-fuck manner; “yeah, you’re right this doesn’t look good on me, and maybe I should ditch the blonde wig, that’s such a good idea”; “couldn’t have done this without your opinion”; “yes, I prefer my first EP too! Yeah, maybe I should make it less complex.” She’s evidently not letting these people bring her down, and instead steps on their heads in order to achieve new heights, as “Thank You” is one of her most immediately addictive songs to date (and that’s saying something). An anthem for the perennially pissed off everywhere, “Thank You” reminds us that only the only person who needs to think something is worthwhile is ourselves.
