Cate Selna surfs on sunshine with “my way”

LA artist Cate Selna should market her new song โ€œmy wayโ€ as an anti-depressant because itโ€™s like opening a bottle of celestial sunlight. Itโ€™s one of the gems on Selnaโ€™s new EP currency.

Selnaโ€™s soaring harmonies have a Caroline Polachek vibe โ€“ radiant and liberating. She offers a balance to the likes of Ethel Cain, who write dark songs that last eight minutes; Cateโ€™s compositions are cheery and often under two minutes.

โ€œโ€˜my wayโ€™ started years ago as a simple question I kept asking myself โ€“ when or if Iโ€™d ever feel grounded and sure in my own process,โ€ says Selna. โ€œI wrote it on guitar, consumed by a constant search for answers. Over time, I translated it into an electric space โ€“experimenting with synths on my laptop at home in LA โ€“ and finally finished it in Highland Park with my producer and friend Justin Kohlberg. It became a song about trusting the motion of figuring it out while youโ€™re in it.โ€
