Buck Meek rumbles up the “Haunted Mountain” on his new single, announces new album

Big Thief guitarist and co-songwriter Buck Meek has announced his new album, Haunted Mountain, due out on 25 August through 4AD. He’s also shared the title track, written with his friend Jolie Holland.

A rowdier affair than most of what populated Meek’s beautiful 2021 album Two Saviors, “Haunted Mountain” finds the singer with “darkness all around” but seeing someone who “wreathed all around in a golden cloud”, presenting light above him, guiding him onwards. As we progress through the song’s dusty shuffle, we hear of Meek’s former life before he ended up on the “Haunted Mountain” and about how happy he is to have found himself on this summit, surrounded by beautiful nature, until he affirms “I’m never coming down again”. As usual, it’s filled with Meek’s honest and picturesque observations, underscored by beautiful guitar, all rendered rustic with his Texan twang.
