The preeminent pop princess Britney Spears recently announced that her forthcoming album will be titled Femme Fatale. It’s a commonly-used phrase and title, adopted by countless pop starlets and even glam rockers like Lou Reed, but it carries a certain sophisticated connotation. The cover art seems to echo that same sentiment, but the press release suggests that “the music speak(s) for itself.”
According to the press release, the album is intended to be a “tribute to bold, empowered, confident, elusive, fun, flirty women and men,” but in the same breath, the statement clarifies Femme Fatale is not “a conceptual album.” We’re not sure how that’s going to work, but we’re anxious to find out. As always, expect songwriting and production to come from Spears’ longtime collaborative partner Max Martin and his favorite hired gun, Dr. Luke. This will be Spears’ seventh studio album on Jive.
More details, such as the release date and video information for “Hold It Against Me,” are imminent. We’ll keep you posted.
UPDATE: Billboard reports that the album release date was leaked last week. Femme Fatale is due March 15.
