Leeds-based Amber Strawbridge aka Bored At My Grandmas House has her debut EP Sometimes I Forget You’re Human Too coming out in just a couple of weeks on February 5. We’ve loved the previous two singles “Showers” and “Skin”, and today she’s shared the EP’s title track, saying:
“Sometimes I forget you’re human too is the realisation that everyone is the same. In the sense that we are all human, everyone has issues and problems to face, everyone makes mistakes and has success. I used to compare myself to others a lot and think ‘wow they have their life together’ or ‘how are they so happy all of the time’ but that’s not the case it’s just what you can see on the outside.”
“Sometimes I Forget You’re Human Too” is the kind of realisation that is not even really a realisation at all, but an admonishment of oneself not to catastrophise everything and to constantly compare yourself to others. What’s more frustrating is that, you can have this realisation several times over – and yet you’ll still end up slipping back into that same trap of thinking you’re less than someone else. Strawbridge comes at this theme with gliding indie pop and a compassionate heart, cutting it down to the simple observation of the title, “Sometimes I Forget You’re Human Too”. She doesn’t bemoan this fact or berate herself, she simply tries to be objective, and the song slips through periods of graceful beauty, thorny riffs and ascendant percussion, replicating the turbulent nature of the human experience with ear-catching aplomb.
