Blue Violet go seductively retro on “Imagine Me”

When you listen to North London alt-pop duo Blue Violet’s new single “Imagine Me”, you get immediately transported back to the 80s, a time with no Internet or email when Depeche Mode and The Smiths ruled the airwaves.

Lead singer Sarah McGrigor comes from Scottish/French/Moroccan heritage, and she makes the song memorable with her Debbie Harry-esque vocals. Co-vocalist/guitarist Sam Gotley provides the fluid guitar work that slowly builds to a finale worthy of The Edge from U2. One spin and you’ll be pining for the 80s.

Discussing the song, the duo say, “It’s about the anticipation of a sexual encounter, the lust that goes with fantasising about it, and the subsequent disappointment of it ending too soon.”

Blue Violet will play four live shows this summer, including The Fiddler’s Elbow in London on June 22. That will whet your appetite for their album Faux Animaux, set for release on September 27 (pre-order/save).
