Black Country, New Road reveal debut album plans and unleash new stormer “Science Fair”

The much-hyped London art punks Black Country, New Road have kept us waiting a long time for news on a follow up their impeccable two singles so far, and today they’ve delivered the goods. Interestingly, they’ve made the left-field choice of signing to renowned (mostly) electronic label Ninja Tune, who will release their debut album For the first time on February 5. Enigmatic leader Isaac Wood reveals:

“This is basically representative of our first 18 months… We see this as being a stop in the road. I’ve always been interested in a really honest portrayal of what a band is and what they’ve been working on. I think it’s really nice if people can see an artist like: this was them in the early days, this was their next phase and that they’re quite clear and honest about genuine progression as people and musicians.”

Sax player Lewis Evans adds “We wanted it to sound exactly how we love to sound live,” which, if you’ve had the joy of seeing BC, NR live, you’ll know is extremely exciting. We get a taste of this with brand new track “Science Fair”, which further develops their sound and drags us deeper into a sonic and mental mire.

Black Country, New Road’s debut album For the first time also features ‘reinterpreted’ versions of their previous singles “Sunglasses” and “Athens, France”. It comes out on February 5 through Ninja Tune (pre-save).

You can find the band on Bandcamp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

They’ve also got a whole host of touring plans, featuring many rescheduled from this year, and starting with two socially-distanced London gigs coming up in a few weeks – details on those special gigs here.
