Billy Malm investigates subaquatic dancefloors on “How Are You Doing?”

Euro-dance instrumentalist Billy Malm seems driven to explore all the various types of dancefloor terrains. His experimental electronic inclinations tend toward erratic movements and aberrant contortions, but the beats still shake the hollows of your body, leading to spontaneous corporeal vibrations. ON recent single, “How Are You Doing?”, he tunes into subaquatic atmospheres, with aqueous bloops and echoes ricocheting off submerged cavern walls and dimly lit gatherings of watery figures. The song doesn’t deal in subtlety, its pressurized rhythms and burbling synths leaving an indelible mark on hips and sockets and cranial spaces. But Malm knows how to deliver the goods, breaking away from the beat at times to deliver moments of squiggly ambience, further drawing us into the intricacies of this hypnotic and occasionally mysterious undersea environment.
