Jumping into 2021 with a splash, Barley Passable showcase their disco-pop on electric single “Turnaround” from their forthcoming first EP, Hindsight, which comes out later this year.
Possibly one of 2021’s most promising duos, Kai Ollmann and Davy Brown combine their talents in their new single “Turnaround”, which plays with the words you say to make someone stay. The harmonic undertones of background vocals portray the desperate sense, longing, and pain of losing a lover. The lyrics and rhythm portray the feelings of the loss without making the listener feel too hopeless or lost themselves. Barley Passable speak on the emotions of their new single:
““Turnaround” is the final plea of real love. Helpless, desperate and painful, ‘turn around’ is the last thing you can say to get someone to stay. Knowing that your love is reciprocated only makes it harder and whilst you scream it in your head, even worse is not being able to say it to their face. Fearing growing apart emotionally as well as physically, all you can do is repeat in your head the only phrases that matter; just how much this person has taken your heart, and how much you want them to stay... The two of us really wanted the feeling of sadness and desire when a loved one leaves to come through, and so the repetitiveness of all the lyrics mirrors the way that those emotions just keep replaying on your mind.”
The track is surprisingly upbeat, for what it represents and twists disco funk with electro pop. Written, recorded and produced by Barley Passable in their very own studio “Turnaround” is a track that will make you want to turn around every time! Listen below or on streaming platforms.
Barley Passable’s debut EP Hindsight is expected later this year. For more news, keep up with the duo on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
