Argentinian electronic music producer UJI shares the entrancing, mysterious “Kinto”

UJI has a knack for tapping deeply into the human experience, without ever feeling like they’re overreaching to do so. Hailing from Argentina, the electronic music producer uses varying sonic palettes to create a complex world of sound.

For his latest, “Kinto”, he makes good use of a nylon-string guitar, fleeting percussion, and his own deep, even haunting voice, to craft something that feels as if it exists between worlds, spiritualism meets everyday strife.

It’s taken from his gradually approaching new album, TIMEBEING, a work that finds everything connected, from prehistoric tribal seances to packed modern dancefloors. UJI reflects, “The art of making music is the art of manipulating time. I have had experiences where time shifts dramatically; sometimes it slows down to a halt, while moments seemingly become infinite. This is where the magic happens. This is when the fabric of what we call reality begins to show its seams.

“Kinto” is certainly happy to pull at those seams, as it is entrancing video. Director Jazmin Calvarami explains, “Seven artists from a near future are invited by Uji to undergo a transformation. Together, they drink a mercurial elixir, a kind of “messenger of time” and go on a journey. Uji comes across memories of his childhood that mobilize him and lead him to get lost in the labyrinth of shadows and the lights of his own unconscious, where he finally manages to recognize and integrate himself.
