Ana Roxanne lets us peek inside her quiet heart on “Keepsake”, announces new album

Ana Roxanne has announced that she’ll be releasing a new album called Poem 1 through Kranky on 1 May. She’s also shared the first single from it, “Keepsake”.

A slow and romantic piano ballad, “Keepsake” foregrounds Roxanne’s crystalline voice as she works through feelings of longing and nostalgia. In the contemplative atmosphere rendered purely by her voice and keys, the world seems to slow down, allowing us to see and feel inside her feelings as she recalls someone now gone, unreachable. It is certainly plaintive, especially in the caressing tendrils of her voice used in spellbinding moments of wordless but meaningful melody. However, there is more poise than pain in this song, as Roxanne determines to keep a piece of the person beside them and “hold it like a jewel” – and that’s exactly what this song is.

Listen to “Keepsake” below or find it on streamers.
