Listen: Disa – “Sun”

 Disa

Icelandic singer Disa has shared the stage with everyone from Mark Ronson to Damien Rice to Swedish rock band Eivor. But on her newest song “Sun,” the Reykjavík resident stands all alone, her welcoming vocals standing at odds with the coldly reflective, electronic production. Bearing more than a passing aesthetic commonality with other dark synth bands like Fever Ray and Zola Jesus. She has made mention of wanting to “create something that transcends genre. Something that doesn’t fit in a box.” And with “Sun,” she succeeds in crafting a song that pays its debts in regards to its influences but also rises above any overtly superficial musical obligations that might try to hold it back.
