First of all, the premise for this story is ridiculous enough. Apparently, of all the places in the world for Nas to celebrate New Year’s Eve, he chose Angola to stage a couple concerts along with Jemiah Jay. Now, neither me nor you nor the wonderful people of Angola should have been surprised when these concerts were cancelled. I mean, I have no idea how easy it is to even travel to Angola, much less put on a concert there, so even if Nas caught all his flights, who knows the likelihood that the show would go on. Regardless, the shows in the African country were cancelled, and apparently there was some major fallout.
According to TMZ (via Complex), concert promoter Patrick Allocco was apparently kidnapped following the Nas concert cancellations, the result of a missed flight. “A representative for Allocco’s company, AllGood Entertainment, said he and his son were picked up by ‘goons’ hired by Henrique Miguel, a local promoter who put down more than $300,000 for the event. Allocco released a statement noting that if Nas and the show’s opener, Jemiah Jai, simply return the money, he and his son can be returned to the States.” Kind of makes the job American concert promotors do seem pretty easy in comparison.
The story concluded that Allocco and his son are “in residence” in a hotel while the two sides work our the disagreement. I think we can all agree this is some scary shit, and that maybe Angola is not the safest place to stage a concert. Of course, this may be just a isolated incident, saying nothing about typical business transactions in the African nation. Either way, we hope this gets worked out and everyone gets home safe.
