Porcelain Raft is often described as a bedroom project of Italian Mauro Remiddi, which is true, but it also sells his music very short. Remiddi has traveled and lived all over the world, and written and recorded in bedrooms and studios everywhere he goes. In the months since we told you that he had signed to Secretly Canadian he has completely uprooted his life from London to New York. Remiddi is only 27 but in his life he has been caravaning with the Berlin Youth Circus, reinterpreted traditional music in North Korea and had a stint playing piano for an Off Broadway tap dance show; all of which edified and expanded his musical talents.
Now Remiddi has announced his debut album, which is called Strange Weekend. The press release tells us that the album “beautifully captures the fleeting right now” and that “the project’s genesis lies in this visual imagery.” These ideas may sound somewhat abstract for a recording artist, but anyone who has heard any of Porcelain Raft’s past work (most of which is still available to listen to on his Bandcamp) can tell you that this is entirely possible for Mauro Remiddi.
Secretly Canadian will have the honour of releasing Strange Weekend on January 24th on CD/LP/MP3. Below you can hear the beautiful “Put Me To Sleep” and see the cover art and tracklist.
