Update: Dirty Projectors prepare new LP for spring 2012, don’t diss The Strokes

As we expected, Dirty Projectors have nearly completed their new album and should have it ready for release in early-spring 2012. Dirty Projectors’ main-man Dave Longstreth spoke with Spin about the process and about what to expect from the next album, revealing a few juicy tidbits.

Perhaps the most strange thing revealed in the interview is Longstreth has written a song in response to The Strokes Is This Is? titled “Maybe That Was It,” as well as a Thriller-like song that touches on horror. As Longstreth says, “a lot of the songs are about horror or fear. Considering the last decade, it just didn’t feel right to be making this super exuberant music. It might just be that I was up here in the fucking winter when it was light three hours a day and there’s three feet of snow on the ground.”

Longstreth also compares the sound to their Bjork collaboration, Mount Wittenberg Orca. You can check out the full interview here, and we’ll keep you in the loop about future release dates and such.

Update: Apparently, “Maybe That Was It” is not a diss song. Dave Longstreth posted the following on his Dirty Projectors Facebook: “to clarify: “maybe that was it” = not a diss track!! julian and i hung last winter, he’s a cool dude and we actually might make some music together at some point. the song actually has nothing to do with the strokes’ song — that was just a random joke i made to the spin interviewer, but i guess he didn’t get it and it became the headline of his article instead! –dave”
