Since Bloc Party’s last album in 2008, frontman Kele Okereke has released one solo album, last year’s The Boxer, and has an EP on the way next month, titled The Hunter. Otherwise, things have been relatively quiet from the Bloc Party camp. That is, until today, when NME reported that the singer of the English four-piece fears that he might have been fired from the band.
“I was actually having lunch about three weeks ago, just here on 8th Avenue and I saw somebody walk past and I recognized the haircut,” Okereke says to NME. “It was Russell. I was like, ‘Hey!’ but he didn’t see me and I followed him around the corner and then I saw Matt, Gordon and Russell all standing outside this rehearsal space. They all went inside.”
“I hope I haven’t been fired. I don’t really know what’s going on, because we haven’t really spoken recently and I’m a bit too scared to ask,” the singer added.
Sounds like Okereke is a regular detective! And, whether people would care much about Bloc Party without Okereke remains to be seen, as the singer is a big part of their appeal. Keep a lookout for further news on this story.
