Continuing one of the best reissue and music preservation projects, Strut Records will be releasing the third compilation in their ongoing Nigeria 70 series. Sweet Times: Afro-Funk, Highlife, and Juju from 1970’s Lagos will focus on the cross pollination of genres during the period, blending classic guitar with more jazz and disco than the previous compilations. “Ire” is a great example of this amazingly curated effort, a twisting and jiving jam that combines great harmonies and bongo-driven beats. Sweet Times is out May 10th on Strut, and if dig what you hear there is plenty more to be had on the first two editions of Nigeria 70.
