A press release has confirmed that the Beatles’ 12 studio albums have been remastered and will be released on CD on September 9, 2009, to coincide with the release of a Beatles-themed Rock Band game. The albums have been restored using the latest technology, marking the first time the Beatles’ iconic catalog has seen an update since the albums were originally released on CD in the mid 1980s. In addition to the group’s proper albums, the 1969 film soundtrack Yellow Submarine and the singles compilation Past Masters will get the reissue treatment. Two box sets will also be released, one collecting the entire catalog in mono, and the other in stereo. All artwork is designed to replicate the original UK pressings of the albums, with new photos and liner notes added. Early editions of all of the albums will include brief DVD documentaries concerning the making of the album. No word on whether a digital release, on iTunes or otherwise, is also happening.
