In the same way Coppola is departing from creating blockbusters and telling a more unconventional story, Deacon is aiming for a similar departure from house noise to something similarly abstract.
“I’ve been wanting to go back to music that is more dissonant, like what I was doing in college,” Deacon said in a recent conversation with the Baltimore Sun. “But I didn’t want to disenfranchise my pop audience, so this is a good platform to show a different side of my music.”
Deacon is an artist’s artist. He studies as a classically-trained musician before founding Wham City and making the esoteric electronic sounds he’s known for today. “I was fascinated with his intelligence, and also with his sense of adventure,” Coppola said.
Twixt Now is described as a Gothic romance in the tradition of Edgar Allen Poe starring Val Kilmer and Elle Fanning. The film is nearly finished. Coppola is looking for a distributor for it.
Deacon is keeping busy, too. Next month, an orchestral piece will be premiered in Ontario, Canada, by the Kitchner-Waterloo Symphony.t not his first foray into classical music.
