Jamila Woods returns with feather-light single “Boundaries”

Tim Adorf

Chicago-based artist, poet and songwriter Jamila Woods is back with  “Boundaries”, a feather-light, slinky tune with tasteful latin-guitars and sweeping, rattling percussion. As inviting as the song sounds sonically, the songwriting takes a more contemplative angle, as Woods measures the tension and release of fully giving into a relationship.

“Boundaries” is a song about the negotiation between private and shared space in a new relationship,” she comments. “The risk involved in letting someone get close enough to see your rough edges. I think a lot about the Prentice Hemphill quote, ‘Boundaries are the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously.’ The song is about learning the difference between erecting boundaries out of fear versus out of love.”

Whether this is the first glimpse of an upcoming EP or album project is yet unclear. Check the lyric video below and find the track on streaming services.
