Dublin-based Art rock band Akrobat are new on the scene, but they’re already making themselves heard. Releasing their debut single, “Basquiat’s Widow”, today, they’re showing just why they deserve your attention (and ears).
Based on the rocky relationship between legendary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat and his muse, Suzanne Mallouk, the song also seeks to comment on segregation, racism, and the perils facing the LGBTQ+ community. It’s a lot for a debut single to swallow, but as you’ll find, they’re more than up for the challenge.
With jagged guitar, a mixture of spoken-word and sung vocals, and a chorus that’s all too easy to get stuck in your head, it assures they’re a band to watch. As they prepare their debut album, Jammed Space Movement, for a November 5th release, we don’t have all too long to wait before seeing what the full show is all about.
In the meantime, check out the single below, along with its frantic music video, a mixture of arty visuals, footage of New York’s lower East Side, and the band themselves performing.
