Nottingham’s Divorce kickstarted things quite spectacularly with their spry debut single “Services”, an infectious amalgamation of a lost Toadies song and the slight twang of country golden oldie (the band did cite The Felice Brothers as an influence). Suffice it to say, follow-up single “Pretty” continues that upward trend of sounding both fresh and familiar.
Duetting between Felix Mackenzie-Barrow‘s Arab Strap-like drawl and Tiger Cohen-Towell’s sanguine lilt, the song tells the tale of two lovers under public scrutiny, clinging desperately onto their mutual devotion amidst the shitstorm.
Mackenzie-Barrow: “The two characters in this song are holding onto each other despite scrutiny and humiliation. It’s a portrait of two tortured people set inside a makeshift ballad about preserving one pure thing in an insane world. This is the biggest love story since ‘Bee Movie’ (2007, Dreamworks).”
