Black Country, New Road continue to tantalise us on the lead up to their second album Ants From Up There, today following early singles “Chaos Space Marine” and “Bread Song” with a new one called “Concorde”.
Like the previous singles, “Concorde” finds BCNR leaning into their more tender side – but even more than ever before. A loved-up ditty to someone – or something – lovingly referred to as “Concorde”, Isaac Wood takes us through some tumultuous times in his lyrics, but the song is pure grandiose uplift. The septet intertwine magically, their sparkling instrumentation circling into a storm of silvery lights that feels appropriate for the season. Across the track, we’re guided through a lifetime of love, rife with random images that give unexpected intimacy. As the song tips towards volume at the elegiac finale, it feels like a natural progression of the steadily-building sweep of the previous five minutes – a rapturous piece, all in all.
