Zeiner I-Wolf combine their individual crafts on enveloping “The Argument”, announce debut album

Zeiner I-Wolf is the coming together of pianist and composer Verena Zeiner and the musician and producer Wolfgang Schlögl (aka I-Wolf). The two have joined forces for an album entitled Magic Wall, which will be out November 26 via Seayou records. The album is said to combine jazz references with contemporary sounds, mixing acoustic and electronic elements into a conversation. Lead single “The Argument” feels like a fine introduction, melting together each side of the duo’s respective coin.

What seems like a simple piano figure repeating at first, actually hold more weight the longer it goes on. Allowed to thaw into the warm, cushion-like synths, the piano soon seems like a half-remembered sound in a dream world you are inhabiting. The synths become gloopier and percussive touches keep the track on edge just the right amount as metallic textures creep into the fold, like an impending sense of doom and darkness becoming an increasingly threatening entity. Married to the Vifill Prunner-directed video featuring dancer and choreographer Katharina Senk moving to the music, “The Argument” comes all the move alive until it seems to suddenly disappear at its final moment.
