Towards the tail end of June, Barcelona band The Zephyr Bones delivered “No One” along with plans for a new album called Neon Body in October. Today they return with a second glimpse of the record via a song called “Verneda Lights”, saying:
“La Verneda is a neighborhood of Barcelona with a certain special light. This song tells the story of an autumnal and lysergic romance. From a cinematic point of view, you get the feeling of sneaking into a party in which the two protagonists dance to the Verneda Lights’ guitar riff.”
Indeed, while “Verneda Lights” still bears the hallmarks of The Zephyr Bones’ dreampop sound, there is undeniably more groove and swagger here. This mostly comes through in the low end, a bass line that crawls and bounces around the fretboard, taking your hips along with it. Add to this the bright synths, which rove around like lights on a dancefloor, a guitar riff that harks back to disco’s heyday ,and a punchy beat, and you’ll quickly find yourself transported into the story, scampering around Verneda, following the echoes of music that seem to be pouring out of every doorway.
Listen to “Verneda Lights” below or on streaming platforms.
The Zephyr Bones’ new album Neon Body comes out on October 22 via La Castanya. You can find them on Bandcamp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
