Korean-American songwriter Jen Rim releases debut single “Hanging On”, readies EP

Formerly a member of Run River North, L.A.-based songwriter Jen Rim has been building the confidence to branch out on her own. With the release of her debut single under her own name, “Hanging On”, that moment has come at last. It wasn’t a simply genesis.

She reflects on her first release, as well as her approaching EP at large, “The world has been affected so tragically by the pandemic, the constant negative news downpour, and the AAPI movement–and that’s a huge part to these songs.

“Hanging On” was inspired by that self-applied pressure to which we can all relate to falling short of: to make “perfect” choices and do no wrong. Rim elaborates, “The title is exemplary of some days when you’re barely hanging on to the end of the rope, and some days you’re more confident than others. Whatever it looks like, that moment is so crucial to me because it leads you to the next step.

Her voice is adept at carrying that very uncertainty and even devastation, achingly expressive in its blunt humanity, floating somewhere between Katie Crutchfield and early St. Vincent.

Listen to the track below or on streaming platforms, and stay tuned for more from Rim’s approaching EP very soon.
