Glasgow-based quintet VLURE have already started to build a buzz, but today that volume amps up with the release of their official debut single “Shattered Faith”. On the inspiration for the track, they say:
“We wanted to create something that felt at home on the dancefloors that we all found ourselves on growing up, yet still equally at home in the sweat-filled venues that the band was conceived in. At it’s crux, ‘Shattered Faith’ is about self-empowerment. It’s the disillusionment with where you are and what you’ve been given. It’s lying on your kitchen floor at 3am realising who you truly are and finding power in that – it’s a new lease of life. We believe that, if you want to find it, there is something for everyone in this song.”
As soon as you hit play on “Shattered Faith” and hear its hammering beats and searchlight synths, you can’t help but imagine this dominating a nightclub or venue packed with writhing bodies. That “Shattered Faith” has a similar name to New Order’s classic “True Faith” might just be a coincidence, but VLURE’s track feels like a modernised version of that club classic – a bruised, gritty, but ultimately redemptive and uplifting banger. That it’s dropped on ‘hump day’ might also have been a coincidence, but it’s just the jolt of pure adrenaline and self-belief that we need to get through the rest of the week.
