Cherry Glazerr, the project focused around Clem Creevy, seems to be gearing up for a return in 2021, and today brings a taste of what’s to come with new single “Rabbit Hole”. Creevy says:
“Rabbit Hole is about clawing back my identity. I often find myself acting a certain way to get someone else’s approval. Then it’s hard for me to find myself again. That’s what I was meditating on with this song.”
Not only does the song find Creevy powerfully fighting against negative influences, but sees her entering a new dimension of her own by evolving Cherry Glazerr’s sound with the aid of Jenn Decliveo (Hinds, Beth Ditto, Porridge Radio). Firstly, there’s the implementation of a Detroit soul sample – lifted from The Moderations’ “All Because Of You” – while a percolating bass and beat set “Rabbit Hole” on course for the dancefloor. Creevy is just as powerful in this ilk, giving a light sneer at her previous bad decisions and then turning away to focus on her own self. While her trusty guitar largely takes a backseat to the other dance-focused elements, it does insert a few blasts of fuzz and a wirey solo, just to let you know this is still a rock song at heart.
