“I want my phone to die for you” – it may indeed be sad that this is such a romantic thought for recent generations, but hey, it is. Surely you can’t deny there’s some part of you that tires of that constancy of that bright screen, the unending world of distractions open to us at all times, bleeding away our hours with those we actually care for.
Luna Shadows delves deeply into just this sort of millennial pop, scratching away at our collective fatigue and disenlightenment with each song she releases. “Battery Life” is the latest in a series of wallops leading up to her debut, Digital Pacific, due this coming February.
Speaking on her newest song, Shadows reflects, “Where some of the other tracks on ‘Digital Pacific‘ focus on digital miscommunication, this one celebrates tiny moments of connection – exchanging memes with the one you love, getting so caught up in conversation that your phone dies, setting your face as someone’s lock screen, and so forth. Intended to be a modern lullaby and millennial offering, I consider it the most intimate track on my album. In its quietest moments, it aims to exchange the digital world for the analog, to capture that moment before bed where you turn your phone on silent and your brightness down — until the glowing and ringing begin again in the morning.“
