For a genre title seemingly so simply descriptive, Latin Trap is a deceptively, layered, luminous playing field. Alas, nonetheless, it’s proven to be quite a male-dominated court.
Self-taught Colombian “DIY Y2K” artist Mariposa is set to change all that. With a moniker that translates to butterfly, she does indeed float across a track like one, but is more than prepared to sting like, well, you know the rest.
Her latest single, “Quemando”, or “Burning”, deals with the mixed feelings that can come in a long-term relationship, with our heroine trying to maintain a balance between honoring herself and not hurting the other party, all while the world burns down around her. Her graceful vocals skate above the track’s trap drums and lulling keys with supreme grace.
