Five days after R.E.M. released the single “Mine Smell Like Honey,” a single that reminded the fans of a simpler time called the ’90s, the band is right back at it by releasing their second single for their 15th studio album Collapse Into Now, entitled “Uberlin.” (You can stream “Uberlin” below after the gap). “Uberlin” has a softer, more heartfelt sound compared to the first single, “Mine Smell Like Honey,” which is more pop focused.
With the two singles out, we now wait for the album which is due out March 7th on Warner. However, according to manager Bertis Downs, R.E.M. is not likely to tour in support of the new album. Browns spoke up about it during an interview with the Athens Banner-Herald. Interviewer Juile Phillips wrote that Downs mentioned that the band didn’t always tour for their previous album, and as of right now have no intentions of touring for their newest one.
NME reports, R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck wasn’t too sure if the band would go on tour to promote Collapse Into Now either. “I’d really like to do it, but we’ve toured a lot recently,” stated Buck. The band is expected to meet soon to decided for sure if they will be touring or not.
