Modest Mouse and Big Boi collaborating on new Modest Mouse album

Rap and rock have had a interesting relationship, clearing peaking with the Judgement Night soundtrack. But, the idea that Modest Mouse is working with Big Boi has the possibility to surpass even that classic backing to the early-nineties Emilio Estevez action flick. Of course, we also thought such lofty levels were possible about Modest Mouse working with Johnny Marr, and that didn’t really reach the heights that were hoped for.

As pointed out by TwentyFourBit, Big Boi, who has seen artistic and commercial success as both a member of Outkast and as a solo artist, took to Twitter to announce “been camped out in the Lab with Modest Mouse all week, workin on the new mouse LP, coolest cats ever.” The nature of Big Boi’s involvement, be it for production, performance, or just plain encouragement, remains to be seen, but this does spark a bit of excitement for fans of the indie legends.

Modest Mouse has not released an album in four years (since 2007’s We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank), but have a headlining performance scheduled for Sasquatch. Big Boi will also be active over the summer, appearing at Bonnaroo and Soundset. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
