It appears as though the artistic partnership of King Khan and Mark Sultan might be coming to a grinding halt, as reports are spilling out of their tour that the two have been erupting into shouting matches during their shows. The two have apparently been at odds for quite some time now, as multiple concerts goers have noted that shows have stopped halfway through, with an encore of Khan and Sultan screaming at each other off stage.
One concert promoter noted last month that “the King Khan & BBQ Show is officially finished!” and that Sultan might finish the Korea tour solo. Jay Mattson of Obscure Sound described one of their latest gigs:
the high-pitched screams of Khan resonated throughout the entire bar, partly because they were so loud, and mostly because no one else was talking, just listening. A visible Sultan was shrugging, calmly trying to converse with Khan about the state of their musical act. Khan’s drunken jeering and explosive insults toward Sultan kept coming, though.
Not the greatest news, as King Khan & BBQ Show made for a terrific psych rock team, and their live performances made for one hell of a good time. Last year’s Invisible Girl was a terrific album, and looks like it might have been their last. Well, I guess there’s always King Khan & The Shrines!
