Album Stream Premiere: Memoryy – Electric City

Memoryy - Electric City

New York-based electro-pop group Memoryy may seem at first glance to be just another recent pop band obsessed with 80’s synthesizers and soft, malleable harmonies.  And while that does come across to some extent in their sparkling, gossamer sound, the band utilizes this familiar musical history to put their own unique spin on the genre. The soaring vocals and wobbly synths are all present, as are the crystalline guitars and thudding percussion, but these are merely the stepping stones for something grander–something that feels organic despite its overt synthetic nature.  Strains of afro-pop and late 80’s jangle rock infuse the songs on their debut EP Electric City with a beating chromatic heart.  This varied and creative personality, as well as their intent to expand these sounds, set Memoryy far apart from their electro-pop peers.  Electric City is an amalgam of influences, without ever feeling weighed down by them.  Building one layer upon the next, the band crafts an ode to their musical heroes but also fashioning themselves a place beside those same artists.

Beats Per Minute is pleased to premiere the album stream for Memoryy’s upcoming Electric City EP.
