It’s been quite a wait since Yo La Tengo’s last album, 2009’s Popular Songs, but we never had any doubt that one of the longest running and most productive bands in indie rock would return with another full length. We now have the exact date and the manner of that return, as the Hoboken band have announced the release of their 13th album Fade, which will see release through Matador Records on January 15th.
The cover art, seen above, is another in a line of stark and beautiful images that have graced Yo La Tengo’s covers over the years. It seems as though it will tie into the sound of the album, which is said to be “a tapestry of fine melody and elegant noise, rhythmic shadowplay and shy-eyed orchestral beauty, songcraft and experimentation.”
And although Fade is only a slight ten tracks (“slight” being a relative term to YLT here) it seems as though it will be as dense as ever. The press release goes on to tell us that “Fade‘s lyrical themes of aging, tragedy and emotional bonds are woven into a fully-realized whole; the results are direct, personal are more than a little uplifting.”
At least we’re only having to wait a little over two months to hear this thing. You can pre-order Fade from the Matador store, in LP, CD and deluxe LP formats.
