Wunderhorse harnesses uneasiness on the bruising “Butterflies”

British newcomer Wunderhorse (Jacob Slater) shares his new single “Butterflies” today on Communion. The track embodies the anti-mimesis of Oscar Wilde as summed up by Jacob:

“I remember coming up with the main guitar riff, at that time it was the darkest sounding bit of music I’d written. The first set of lyrics didn’t really match the sinister nature of the music, so I decided to revisit an experience that made me feel uneasy the same way the music did.”

After all, life imitates art, or was it the other way around?

The David Gilmour-esque vocals and sing-along chorus of “a million blue butterflies” strip down his experience with a monomaniac. Falsettos over gnarly guitars: a metaphor for that opposing dynamic of his own Mrs. Robinson story.

“Butterflies” is available below or on your favorite streaming platform.

“Butterflies” will surely be the anthem of his sold-out London shows and is the perfect primer for Slater’s acting debut as the Sex Pistols’ drummer Paul Cook in Danny Boyle’s forthcoming new biopic series PISTOL, which airs on Disney+ in May.
