It might come as little surprise to learn that the video for the Darcys’ “The River” features some water. Over four minutes we see frontman Jason Couse fall backwards into a body of water. And that’s it. Only it isn’t, because the video – directed by Eric Johnson – was shot in one take on a Phantom Miro M120, capturing 1700 frames per second. Consequently we see the glimmering droplets of water that erupt once Couse hits Etobicoke Creek and also the distorted fear of his face as he falls backwards. It’s the minute detail like this we so rarely get to indulge in, so watching it multiple times is a pleasure if anything. And set to the band’s erupting, deep version of indie rock, it all makes for something of a minor masterpiece.
