Minneapolis’ Bad Bad Hats are nothing if not dedicated to the idea that music doesn’t have to be complex to be emotional resonant. Sometimes the simplest things can be the most powerful. And along those lines, singer Kerry Alexander and multi-instrumentalist Chris Hoge make uncomplicated, hook-laden pop songs that immediately bury themselves in your subconscious and refuse to budge. Drawing upon the shimmering pop of mid-90’s alternative radio and a penchant for lyrical introspection, Bad Bad Hats find themselves steeped in pop nostalgia without the overbearing weight of any single influence. They’ve recently shared the video for “It Hurts,” taken from their latest EP of the same name—which was released earlier this year on Afternoon Records. Watch as their eccentric brand of indie pop finds itself soundtracking a game of hockey among the members of the band. Check out the video below.
