Of all the tactics to combat leaks, moving the album release forward is a personal favorite. This allows fans who were waiting to buy a vinyl or cd or cassette instant access to the music that the internet trolls have made available. While not the ideal scenario to have your album come out, it is as least making lemonade out of horseshit.
Thus, Vivian Girls issued the following statement when news hit that their album, Share The Joy, was available for free, well, everywhere:
“Did you hear the news? Our new album, Share The Joy, already leaked. Oh well. Instead of dealing with illegal downloads, bit torrents, and all that other annoying stuff you have to deal with when downloading albums online, we’re putting it up for instant download for all pre-orders. So you can listen to the whole album right now (legally) if you pre-order!”
