Tim Hoyt and Franc Castillejos make beautifully flowing, pastoral music as Mountain Sounds. And if ever a band name were indicative of the music, then Mountain Sounds is one of the finest examples. Rows of rolling hills and moss-covered patches of earth are effortlessly brought to mind as you hear how carefully and concisely Hoyt and Castillejos dissect and reassemble basic indie rock templates in the service of the music on their upcoming self-titled record, due out March 26th.
The band recently recorded a live performance of “Find That Man,” which comes from their forthcoming release, at the Vanguard Room in Lakeland, FL. Capturing the casual ramble and twisting melodies of the track, the band glides through the song as easily as taking a breath. From the deeply resonant piano tones and shuffling percussion to the immediately engaging vocals, the track saunters along with an easy-going grace and simplicity that belies its complex harmonies and layered instrumentation. Hoyt and Castillejos have created a song so tangibly evocative of a place and time that it feels more like watching a painter work than listening to music.
Beats Per Minute is proud to premiere the performance video for “Find That Man” from Mountain Sounds.
