Drawing on influences ranging from folk, funk, and electro-pop, including any variations thereof, Ishi make dance music with a propulsive, electronically beating heart. The lights may flash across your eyes and the beats may work their way deep into your brain but main musical instigators JT Mudd and Brad Dale work as often as not from a very humanist perspective. The feeling and emotional connection is never lost among the squeals of reverberating synths and thunder clap rhythms—electronic music for the spirit, as well as the dancefloor.
The latest video from the visually and aurally minded electronic group places them in Winter Park, Colorado, coincidentally in what appears to be the middle of winter. Directed by Phoenix Taylor, it shows the band dancing and singing from within a dilapidated cabin and eventually adds two women in vaguely Native American dress into the mix, as singer JT Mudd sports a brightly decorative headpiece. The song’s subtle acoustic accents meld well with the thickly hung beats and fluorescent synths that run parallel to the video’s oddly feverish narrative.
