Sitting quite happy I’d imagine after winning the award for “Best Singer-Songwriter” from the Chicago Reader last year, avant-pop artist Azita is set to release her latest record Year on November 13th via Drag City. The songs on this album were began as part of an idea she had for an avant-garde theatre project, and they represent a simpler and more childlike version of herself than we’ve heard on previous outings. She has already released our first taste from the album, the piano-led “It’s Understanding,” and now we are privy to a video of the recording of this song in the studio.
The video is simple, with cameras merely recording the band as they effortlessly run through the gently introspective song. The piano sounds vibrant, the upright bass resonant, and the guitar and drums seem to run in parallel lines, casually bracing the song and carrying Azita’s inimitable vocals to the end.
Beats Per Minute is proud to premiere the in-studio video for “It’s Understanding” from Azita.
