UK musician Dau is a new face, indeed, he’s the latest signing of Spirituals, the new leg of the ever-reliable Phantom Limb, and he’s more than worthy of your attention.
Working with, as a press release puts it, “a sense of orchestral chamber composition but with the heart of ambient music”, his glacial, deeply emotional sound is one to truly get lost in for those of us addicted to the ineffable beauty of ambient music.
As with many of the best entries into the genre, his work across his rapidly approaching debut LP, Zed Zed, reaches into some unknowable ether, only to return with feelings both omnipresent and just out of reach. There’s true, dare we say, peace to be found here. Or at least as close as our anxieties and fears will allow us to come to it.
