Trent Reznor’s score for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is released next week, and he is doing much promotion for the release of the film and the soundtrack. In speaking with the UK’s tabloid The Sun he let slip a mighty interesting claim:
“Nine Inch Nails is not dead by any means, but all the touring and record writing has been thrown off for a little bit. I highly expect that to be the focus of 2012 in terms of writing and we may see a full-length release even”
Many had thought that after the Dragon Tattoo work was done Reznor would return to working with his wife in their band How To Destroy Angels, since he has been promising a full length release from them for quite a while. However, it seems HTDA is on the back burner for the time being.
Speaking about why he decided to move away from the NIN moniker, Reznor said:
“It started to feel like if I didn’t force myself into a change I would regret it. It’s a fear of not wanting to try things because you’re in a comfort zone. I always think about my hero David Bowie and his fearlessness to destroy something that isn’t ready to break yet and start something new”.
Having now won an Oscar from his work outside NIN, and well on his way to another nomination at least, it seems Reznor is now ready to return to being Nine Inch Nails. Reznor has never been the kind of man to mince his words or say something he didn’t mean, so we can greatly look forward to new NIN material in the near future.
