Atlanta, GA electro-pop duo Sonen, consisting of Keith Evans and Holly Mullinax, make blindingly bright, telescopic dance-pop that seems to race at a marathon pace from your speakers. From the vibrant synth strings and call-and-response vocals to the fluctuating bass lines, Sonen are cutting a nice wide swath through a city primarily known for hip-hop and garage rock/indie rock. Following the release of their 2010 EP Devious Device, the band shared the stage with artists such as Diplo, STRFKR, and Flying Lotus and set to work compiling material for their first official LP. Inside the Sun is the result of their efforts and is set to be released on April 9th.
Prior to the album’s release, the band has offered up a version of their track “Two of You” which has been given the remix treatment by fellow electro-heads The PASS. Drained away of the thickly percolating bass and guitar rumbles and remade with synth squiggles and chopped up chorale vocals, the track is still recognizable but feels much more club-ready than its original iteration. The more intimate, though still vividly technicolor, conversation between Evans and Mullinax has given way to a sweaty night on the dance floor.
Beats Per Minute is pleased to premiere the remix of Sonen’s “Two of You” by The PASS.
