myopic is the ambient instrumental project of Dallas, Texas-based drummer and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Ryan. We’ve mentioned Ryan before when discussing his previous single “Jura” and that song’s meticulously crafted ambient catharsis. His latest record We Were Here continues his methodical and thorough breakdown of the inter-connectivity between ambient music and the darker shades of indie rock. And on his latest single “Toner,” we hear another version of what made “Jura” so instantly engaging. That careful use of insistent beats and nostalgia-tinged electronics winds its way deep inside your head and refuses to budge–what begins as a calm, piano-led ambient swirl eventually lgives way to subtle waves of hazy synths and building percussion. By the song’s end, that percussion is at the forefront and the electronic flourishes all serve the needs of that chugging beat before fading away again into some ephemeral haze.
Beats Per Minute is pleased to premiere the latest single “Toner” from myopic’s album We Were Here, out now on Simulacra Records.
