Continuing in the tradition of high energy catchy pop-punk, The Thermals have announced the release of their fifth studio album Personal Life. The year following the release of 2009’s Now We Can See has been a hectic year for the three piece, including not only the writing and recording of Personal Life, but also constant touring of North America, Europe and even China.
Set to be dropped on September 7th, this album is the second from the trio to be released on Kill Rock Stars and also marks the third time the band has turned to Chris Walla, notable producer and Death Cab for Cutie Guitarist, for production duties. The band and Walla went old school with the albums production, forgoing the use of computers and recording directly onto 2” tape than mixed onto ½” tape before being mastered for the album.
Although we can expect much of the same brand of melodic, loud poppy punk that we have come to expect from The Thermals, Kill Rock Stars notes that Personal Life explores “darker, more introspective territory” and lyrically moves away from politics and death to address “love and lies with the level of same passion.”
Look for the first single, “I Don’t Believe You” out August 10th.
