This is the time of year where album release news is sparse, as most artists avoid dropping albums during the holidays and usually opt to offer up new material in the beginning of the next year. Hip hop acts, though, play by their own rules, and because some of the bigger names still see large initial sales from physical releases, the holidays simply mean more people shopping and, thus, you can still see some quality rap-related releases during December.
Why are we talking about this? Well, The Roots have just announced via their Facebook page that their thirteenth album, Undun, will see the light of day on December 6th via Def Jam. There are few details about the recording, but it is believed that James Blake will appear as a guest and that this will be some sort of concept album. We’ll keep an eye out for more, but this should give you something to look forward to in a time of year when best-of-lists fill your need for actual new music.
