The Magnetic Fields announce new album due in March, tour

The Magnetic Fields aren’t exactly known for their quick turn around of albums, having in the past taken four or five years between releases (when they put out albums with 69 songs this is kind of understandable though), but in the last few years they have stepped up their frequency. This coming March, just over two years on from the release of 2010’s Realism, The Magnetic Fields will release their tenth album called Love at the Bottom of the Sea.

The Magnetic Fields’ last three albums (i, Distortion and Realism) have been recorded without the use of any synthesizers, but Love at the Bottom of the Sea sees them returning to a synthier sound, however it might not necessarily sound like previous releases since Merritt tells us that “Most of the synthesizers on the record didn’t exist when we were last using synthesizers.”

The 15 songs on Love at the Bottom of the Sea are all shorter than three minutes in length and were recorded in LA, New York and San Francisco.

Love at the Bottom of the Sea sees The Magnetic Fields returning to Merge Records for the first time since 1999’s 69 Love Songs. They will put it out on March 6th. You can pre-order it now from the Merge store to receive it on eggshell-coloured vinyl.
